Three reasons why Texas A&M can demolish Utah State in Saturday's game
Texas A&M welcomes in Utah State tomorrow for their second game of the season. USU is coming off of a home win over UTEP, while Texas A&M just dispatched with UTSA last week.
Most are predicting this to be a pretty emphatic win for A&M. Not that I need to convince you, but here are three reasons why Texas A&M will destroy Utah State in tomorrow's contest.
Run defense allows no explosives
This is the biggest thing that fans of Texas A&M will be watching for in this game after some missed assignments against UTSA. Against Utah State it will only go so far, but keeping USU contained in the run game is a good step forward from game one.
That will be easier said than done, of course, as Utah State's most talented skill player is their running back, Miles Davis. This will require a lot of discipline from the A&M defense— discipline that lasts for all four quarters.
Of course, that's what a good defense requires in general. Showing they can lock in against a lesser opponent is a great sign for the Aggies going forward.
Marcel throws another four touchdowns
Texas A&M's QB1 showed out in a big way this past Saturday, and now he's ready to repeat that against Utah State. KC Concepcion and Mario Craver proved they were elite additions, but they're not the only weapons Marcel has.
Ashton Bethel-Roman only recorded one catch last week— so while USU's attention may be more heavily weighted towards Concepcion and Craver, it could open up opportunities for ABR.
Amari Niblack also made a great catch against UTSA, and we could see him get more involved in the pass game as well. Izaiah Williams is another name to watch here.
A&M holds Utah State under 10
I'll save any projections of a shutout for the bold predictions column, but I think Texas A&M can contain USU pretty well on offense. If A&M turns the ball over deep in their own territory, or has a bust on a kickoff, Utah State could get into the double digits, but I think this is an offense that is far more challenged than that of UTSA.
Overall, this should be a great springboard into next week against Notre Dame. All fans are worried about is that the starters emerge healthy from this one and ready to travel to South Bend next week.
