Waves To Look Out For

Ben Rodriguez was an offensive power for Pepperdine in their opening series against St. Joseph. The junior scored four runs on four hits and was credited with six RBI. However, the first basemen did commit two of the team’s three errors in the series. The Aggies would be smart to take advantage of him in the field.

More from Gig Em Gazette

Reliever Kiko Garcia allowed only one hit in 4.1 innings pitched on opening night. In 2016 Garcia went 4-3 with a 5.10 ERA but only allowed three home runs all season. The Aggies will look to continue their offensive success. They’ll try to force Garcia’s first walk this season, maybe even in Ball 5 fashion?

Aggies To Look Out For

Senior Nick Choruby came into his own as an offensive player and a leader for the Aggies opening weekend. Choruby blasted his first home run in Maroon and White during Saturday’s afternoon game against Bowling Green. The outfielder, who was not known as a power hitter, has gone 10 for 16 with five RBI and and .875 slugging percentage. After loosing so many big bats last season, Choruby has stepped up for the Aggies.

Jorge Gutierrez was a force coming off the bench for Coach Childress. The freshman, Sugarland native, earned the right to start in the last two games. Gutierrez hit an impressive three home runs in his seven total at-bats.

The Aggies are overflowing with young players, but it doesn’t seem too bad with Gutierrez and SEC Freshman of the Week, Braden Shewmake leading the way. Let’s see how they do on weekend number two.
