Texas A&M Softball: Aggies, 10-0, Continue Undefeated Start

Texas A&M Softball is 10-0 after a clean sweep of the Texas A&M Invitational over the past weekend behind excellent pitching and a hot offense.

The Aggies went a perfect 5-0 this weekend in games against SFA, Missouri State and New Mexico. Behind another weekend of high-powered offense and shut-down pitching, the Aggies extended their undefeated season to 10-0.

Friday, Texas A&M vs. SFA

Samantha Show took the circle to kick off the Texas A&M Invitational vs. the Lady Jacks. The sophomore dominated, surrendering only four hits and walking one in a complete game, five inning shutout. She improved to 3-0 on the year. Her season ERA sits a minuscule 0.59 through just over 23 innings pitched in addition to batting .318 on the year.

The Aggie offensive continued on its hot streak Friday afternoon, run-ruling the Lady Jacks 8-0.

Kaitlyn Alderink opened scoring in the home half of the first inning on a sac fly from Samantha Show. She worked a walk to open the inning, stole second, and advanced to third on an Ashley Walters single. 1-0 Aggies.

The bottom of the second begun much the same way. Riley Sartain and Erica Russell worked back to back walks to open the inning. Russell and Keeli Milligan would both score on a wild pitch a throwing error following a single by Alderlink. 3-0 Aggies.

Extending the Lead

The Aggies once again worked a walk to start the home half of the third, this time by Sarah Hudek. She would score after stealing second, on a throwing error that allowed Russell to be safe at first. Russell scored on a triple by Milligan. Two more singles netted two more Aggie runs. 7-0 Aggies.

A one-out walk by Kristen Cuyos had the Aggies back in business in the 4th. Freshman Blake-Ann Fritsch entered to pinch run and subsequently stole second. She advanced to third on a Erica Russell ground out and scored on a single by Keeli Milligan. 8-0 Aggies.

Samantha Show came out to finish off the Jacks in the top of the 5th and the game declared over. This was the second run-rule victory for the Aggies on the young season.

Friday, Texas A&M vs. Missouri State

Lexi Smith got the start for the Aggies against Missouri State. She pitched a complete game shutout of the Bears, allowing only three hits with nine strikeouts on the night. She improved to 2-0 on the young season.

The Aggies hung five on the scoreboard in Friday’s nightcap, all coming from two home runs. In the bottom of the 3rd, it was a three run bomb off the bat of Ashley Walters, scoring Kaitlyn Alderink and Tori Vidales. In the 4th, it was a two-run shot off the bat of Riley Sartain, scoring Sarah Hudek.
