Post Game Takeaways

I’ll say this. The Aggies don’t want to face this TCU team again in a regional. That’s highly unlikely, but these are two teams with real Omaha aspirations. The Frogs didn’t throw away any at bats and battled at the plate no matter the score. Jake Eissler was tremendous in emergency relief work to keep TCU alive. The righty struck out eight and sat down the first nine batters he faced.

There isn’t an explanation for the ninth inning. Just like TCU doesn’t have an explanation for the first. Baseball is a game where weird things happen when you don’t expect them too. College baseball certainty seems to have more of those wrinkles than the major leagues. Then again, that’s one of the reasons we love this game.

What is alarming is the 26 strikeouts that Texas A&M had against the Horned Frogs. According to the Fox broadcast team that’s a new program record. The sheer fact that the Aggies were in this game to the end with that many K’s is remarkable.

There were some serious lapses at the plate, on the mound, and in the field against the Horned Frogs on Saturday night. Yet, without playing a perfect they were able to hang with a powerful TCU team. This wasn’t a post season game. Both teams will move on with their seasons. The Aggies proved they can tough it out with the best. They just have a bit more work to do til their ready for a winner-take-all series.

Next up is another Big 12 opponent, Baylor. The Bears were undefeated until they ran into the buzzsaw that is LSU on Saturday. The Aggies will hope to hand them their second loss in as many days on Sunday afternoon.
