Behind a strong offensive showing the Texas A&M Baseball team blasted by Missouri over the weekend to move within one game of the first place in the SEC.

Missouri learned the hard way over the weekend that when it rains…it pours. The No. 22 Texas A&M Aggies (32-13; 13-8) swept aside Missouri (27-18; 8-13) outscoring the Tigers 25-4 over the weekend. It was the 2nd SEC conference sweep of the season for the Aggies and a phenomenal performance overall.

Game 1: Texas A&M defeats Missouri 11-1

Game 2: Texas A&M defeats Missouri 7-1

Friday, Game 1

Due to weather concerns, Texas A&M and Missouri played a double-header Friday night so we’ll take a look at both games together. Each of these games had a very similar formula: one part Aggie offense plus one lights out Aggie pitcher.

Birgham “Squirrel Boy” Hill continued to remind the SEC Conference why he was named a preseaon All-American. He pitched a scoreless seven innings as the Aggies rolled to a 11-1 win in Game 1. Hill only allowed two hits while striking out seven Tigers. On top of that, Hill became the 17th Aggie to record 200 career strikeouts.

Landon Miner closed out the final two innings allowing one run on two hits. As for the offense, what more can be said about Braden Shewmake? The freshman went 4-for-6 with 2 RBI and a run scored as he continues to play like the SEC Freshman of the Year. George Janca added to the offensive onslaught in the 7th inning with a 2-Run #Whammy to left field.

FrGame 2

In Game 2, Missouri scored an early run in the bottom of the 3rd to take a 1-0 lead. Texas A&M responded with 7 unanswered runs, led once again by Braden Shewmake. They took Game 2 by the score of 7-1.

Shewmake went 3-for-5 with 3 RBI followed by Janca going 1-for-3 and scoring two runs. The real highlight of the day, however, was Kaylor Chaffin. Chaffin came into relive Corbin Martin who had a great start, allowing one run on five hits in 4.1 innings of work. 14 batters came to face Chaffin and all 14 were sent packing. Chaffin struck out 8 of the 14 batters he faced in his perfect relief performance. Simply put, “My arm felt good. I just came in and trusted my pitches and the defense.”
