Texas A&M Baseball is one win away from a trip to the College World Series after taking care of business in Game 1 of the College Station Super Regional.
Texas A&M 7 – Davidson 6 (15) – Full Box
Brigham Hill got the Aggies off to a great start, striking out the side in the top of the first. Nick Choruby picked up where he left off in Houston, rocketing a leadoff double into the right field corner. Two batters later he scored on a groundout from Braden Shewmake to give the Aggies a 1-0 lead. And they didn’t look back, sort of.
Texas A&M would put up runs in four of the first five innings and had their way early with an arm that stumped North Carolina last weekend. A Hunter Coleman two run blast off the score board in the fifth seemed to put this one away for good, but that was before the Wildcats responded with three runs of their own in the sixth and two more in the seventh.
Texas A&M took a 6-5 lead into the eight inning. Sherrod recorded the final six outs, but it came at the price of the tying run in the ninth. The game would remain scoreless until 15th. The maroon and white loaded the bases with no out before George Janca singled through the right side for the decisive run,

Nick Choruby is becoming a quiet star
Senior Nick Choruby gets another game ball. His doubles in the first and second inning deflated the Davidson bench. He sent a message to the visitors dugout: this isn’t Chapel Hill.
The crowd capitalized on the momentum and went crazy. The 12th Man was electric on Friday. Chants of “Durin” rang loudly from the bleachers and echoed across the grass. They would have yelled regardless, but Choruby added fuel to the fire. Choruby finished 3-for-6 with 2 RBI and a run scored.
He would have been the player of the game had it not been for the performance of Brigham Hill.
Player of the Game
Davidson has one true ace on their staff, Durin O’Linger. With him throwing on Friday it became imperative that the Wildcats win game one behind their stud. He had a decent day, but he was decisively outdueled on the mound by Aggie ace Brigham Hill.
Hill hadn’t made it through six innings in Ian previous three starts. He’d allowed 11 runs in 14.2 innings and was in need of a “get right game.” He didn’t allow a hit until the sixth inning. The Wildcats would strike for three runs on four hits in that frame. Hill got out of the jam with his six strikeout of the afternoon. His final line: 6 IP, 4 H, 1 ER, 6K. Without HIll’s steady hand the Wildcat rally could have proven perilous.

Up Next
It wouldn’t be Aggie if there weren’t any tense moments, but for the third time in as many years Texas A&M finds themselves one win away from Omaha. Davidson has thrown their ace and the Aggies still have Corbin Martin and Stephen Kolek available. It’s time to take care of business and punch a ticket to the College World Series. Game 2 starts on Saturday at 5:00 p.m. CT.
