For the Alabama Football team, finding a challenge may be a difficult thing to do, though the Texas A&M Football team may have done it. The Crimson Tide have lost just six games since the beginning of the 2015 season, marking one of the most dominant stretches of football by any college football program.
Since Nick Saban’s arrival in Tuscaloosa, the Crimson Tide have been virtually unbeatable. A few teams have toppled them, but nobody else has been able to manage a long-term grasp on the conference over ‘Bama.
Could this year’s Texas A&M Football team be the one that finally does it?
The Alabama Crimson Tide view the Texas A&M Football team as their toughest challenger in 2021
For Alabama, this is nothing new. The Tide come into every single season with a new team that is ready to challenge for the SEC title. Even so, this year’s A&M team could be one of their scariest opponents yet. Sports Illustrated’s Cole Thompson mentioned that this could be their year.
"“In short, if A&M is ever going to challenge for a national title, they are going to have to take down the Crimson Tide, and this is going to be their best opportunity. Will Jimbo Fisher have them ready?”"
Even Roman Harper, SEC Analyst and former Alabama Safety said that the Aggies should be favored in the matchup between these two teams. Here’s the full quote when he was asked how good the Aggies are going to be in 2021.
"[Texas A&M] is going to be really good. They’re going to be favored in every single game up until game six against Alabama and I think they should still be favored then because it’s at home. I think Jimbo does a great job of understanding what wins in the SEC, and that’s great defense, a strong offensive line and running game, and a balanced attack offensively.”"
The Aggies will have to work relentlessly this offseason to develop an offensive line that will feature four new starters and a brand new quarterback under center. Thankfully, Alabama has even more turnover on their offense, losing virtually everybody to the NFL, including Mac Jones, DaVonta Smith, and Jaylen Waddle.
This game will feature two new start quarterbacks in Haynes King (or Zach Calzada) and Bryce Young, which could quickly become one of the best duels in the country.
To add another layer, the duel between A&M and ‘Bama represents two of the best coaches in the country going head-to-head. This offseason, Jimbo Fisher and Nick Saban traded banter, going after each other with friendly jabs. They both know that they’ll have to beat the opposing team to reach the SEC Championship game.
These guys know how important this rivalry will become.
Expect this to be a huge game, as both teams know the weight of the outcome this season.
