The Texas A&M football season starts on Saturday, and we will finally be able to see Haynes King in game action. King was supposed to be the starter last season, but unfortunately lost his season due to an ankle injury in Week 2.

This is his chance to prove doubters wrong. There aren’t many in Aggie nation that doubt King, it is more so the national media, but there are some local fans who don’t believe in the King. He has seemingly improved over the offseason, including adding more muscle and making less mistakes in practice.

King will captain the offense this season in a year where they want to make that jump to College Football Playoff contenders. Head coach Jimbo Fisher is stressing the passing game more than years’ past, so this season has the makings of a big statistical season for the Aggie quarterback.

King’s season statline prediction: 239/369, 64.7%, 3,033 passing yards, 29 passing TDs, 12 INTs, 41 carries, 363 rushing yards, 5 rushing TDs

Haynes King should have no issue against SHSU and Appalachian State to start off the year. I expect him to really hit his stride against Miami. He will recognize that it is his chance to silence the doubters and he will deliver.

I do expect him to hit a rough patch over the next couple weeks because he will be facing some good defenses in Arkansas, Mississippi State, and Alabama. After a loss to Alabama, I think he should bounce back well and put together a solid stretch of performances leading up to the LSU game.

The LSU game I just worry about this season. It should be an offensive shootout, so King will be asked to pass a bit more than normal. There are some great players on that defense, so it is definitely possible that they could capitalize on some mistakes to end the season.

Overall, King should have a solid season as the full-time starter assuming he stays healthy. He should have a great season on the ground also, and I expect him to amass almost 3,500 total yards and flirt with 35 total touchdowns on the season. This is a huge year for the redshirt sophomore, and I expect him to rise to the occasion.
