5-star CB gives concerning quote with Texas A&M on verge of losing him to Sark

It seems like Sark is pulling a fast one on Elko.

It really wasn't that long ago where it felt like the stars were aligning for Texas A&M and Mike Elko to land one of the top players in the country. Yup, 5-star cornerback John Meredith was high on the Aggies, with a prediction even coming in for him to eventually commit to Elko and his staff.

Miami won't go quietly as Texas A&M desperately tries to close out 5-star recruitment

Fast forward to present time and it still looks like Meredith is planning to stay in the Lone Star State for his college ball, but the Aggies are fading a bit in the race. That's because Texas is the new favorite to land his services, which is not ideal.

In a new interview with Rivals' Sam Spiegelman, Meredith didn't hesitate in saying that he previously was feeling the most comfortable with the Aggies, but the Longhorns have changed his mind a bit and now he's also feeling the love from Texas. Add this with the fact that new predictions came in for Steve Sarkisian to win this recruiting battle and it's easy to see why Texas A&M fans are so worried.

Texas A&M is losing serious ground in the battle for 5-star CB John Meredith

Nothing is final here yet, as Meredith is yet to make his final decision. Still, though, things are trending in Texas' favor, which feels like it's going to end up spelling trouble for Elko. According to the 247Sports Composite, the 6-2, 175-pounder is ranked five stars, the No. 1 CB in the country and No. 2 player overall for the 2027 class.

Alabama was previously high on his list too, but it seems like Meredith is going to prioritize staying closer to home instead of making the move to Tuscaloosa. Throughout his recruitment, he's picked up tenders from A&M, Texas, Alabama, Ohio State, Miami and many others.

For now, all signs are pointing to this being a two-team battle between the Aggies and Longhorns. Sark and Will Muschamp have the edge right now, but Elko is no stranger to working 5-star magic when people count him out. Will the same be the case with Meredith? Maybe, but A&M supporters aren't feeling overly optimistic about things.
