Texas A&M football is locked in a huge recruiting race with the Texas Longhorns for the no. 1 corner in the nation in North Crowley's John Meredith. The Aggies have been the clear leader at times in this recruitment, but the Longhorns have made a recent surge that has most insiders favoring Sarkisian in this race.
However, the Aggies hade a counterpunch in this one. Texas A&M got Meredith to move up his official visit to College Station to this upcoming weekend, hoping to make a move back in front of the Longhorns to keep pole position in this key race.
Ahead of that visit, Texas A&M beat reporter Joseph Hastings caught up with John Meredith up in Dallas, and the quote the five-star corner gave in that interview leapt out to Texas A&M fans immediately. Despite the burnt orange momentum, the Aggies may be poised to retake the lead in this recruitment.
Texas A&M may be on verge of seizing recruiting momentum over Sark in John Meredith race
Meredith said the magic word about College Station and the Aggie program in his interview with Hastings earlier this weekend: home.
“Home, it feels like home.” 👍

This is the angle we've seen work for Elko and company time after time in the recruiting game, and it's not hard to see why. This is a staff that has had a high level of continuity since Elko arrived in College Station, and they've prioritized developing relationships with players in the 2027 class in particular— to great effect thus far.
Keeping that feeling of "home" in College Station is a big time selling point for this program, and the long relationship that Meredith has with these coaches could be what helps them win out in the end. Texas has clearly made a big move in recent weeks— there's no denying that.
However, we've seen other teams get a sudden shot of momentum with recruits that the Aggies were considered longtime leaders for, only to have the Aggies swoop back in and pick up the commitment when announcement time came. This exact scenario played out with DJ Hicks and Oklahoma four years ago, and it was the longevity of the relationship that Hicks had with Elijah Robinson that helped the Aggies win out against all the predictions.
It looks like they'll have to operate in a similar way here. Texas is going to use every trick that they can to land Meredith— that much has been made clear. But there are some recruitments where the real thing wins out over the sizzle, despite the amount of cynicism that you tend to see around about the modern recruiting game— and Texas A&M hopes that this is just such a recruitment.
This sets the stage well for this weekend's official visit, of course. There are a bevy of top recruits scheduled to be in town over the next few days, so that will no doubt get Meredith thinking. Texas A&M is almost certain to get the top recruiting class of this cycle— Aggie fans just hope Meredith is a part of it.
