5-star OL’s announcement shakes Aggie fans as recruitment takes another twist

This is the exact opposite of what Texas A&M fans wanted to see ahead of a huge official visit weekend.

Texas A&M football is on the verge of a massive official visit weekend in the upcoming days, with several big time players making their way to campus— including the top corner in the nation in John Meredith. The Aggies need everything to go right this weekend for them to be well-positioned in the race for several players.

One of the bigger weekend visitors that was scheduled to be on campus was five-star offensive lineman Ismael Camara, out of Gilmer. Camara is an insanely athletic big man who is rather new to football, having only come over to the US from France at the beginning of his high school career.

Getting as much top talent on campus for these events is paramount for the Aggies, as they hope to add to their incredibly highly-rated group with even more five-star players. However, the latest announcement from Camara is sinking that proposition, if only by a little bit, for this upcoming weekend.

5-star OL Ismael Camara announces plans to cancel all official visits this summer ahead of Texas A&M visit

Camara put out a statement on X earlier today that indicates that he will be shutting down his official visit schedule for the summer mere days before he was supposed to step foot on Texas A&M’s campus.

It appears that Camara is going to be focusing on his academics this summer in order to be able to enroll early, as his statement indicates that this goal “requires his full commitment” during this time frame. That makes sense, of course, but it is still dismaying to Aggie fans to know that a five-star talent who was supposed to be in College Station this weekend will instead be staying home.

That said, this is an equal outcome for all schools. Texas A&M was not the only one on the docket for Camara— he also had visits lined up to Texas, Oregon, and other places. This is not all doom and gloom, in other words, for the Aggie faithful who dream of adding all the five-star offensive linemen they can this offseason.

Texas A&M already has commitments from two such players in Kennedy Brown and Mark Matthews. These two are enough to form the cornerstone of a massively talented unit up front for years to come, but Adam Cushing and company are looking to add even more to that group.

They have their sights set not only on Camara, who is currently rated as the top in-state tackle per certain services, but Albert Simien, who is from the Lake Charles area. Simien is a race between the Aggies and the Notre Dame Fighting Irish, with the LSU Tigers looking to get in there as well.

Hopefully, the Aggies can get Camara back on campus here before he makes a commitment. Texas A&M will be a player in this one for some time yet to come— but this is still a dismaying announcement nonetheless.
