How a major offensive adjustment would take Texas A&M football to SEC Championship
The Texas A&M Aggies have work to get to if they want to see Atlanta.
The injuries to Le'Veon Moss and Cyrus Allen are detrimental to the team, but the Aggies have a lot to look forward to.
There wasn't a whole lot of action from the first string offensive players against New Mexico State. That's not going to cut it for the next two weeks.
Tight ends for Texas A&M football could end up being a major contribution
We've seen streaks of the TE position contributing before, but Saturday night was something special.
Theo Melin Ohrstrom had his best day of his Aggie career against New Mexico State. He had five catches for 111 yards and showed off an incredible route on the seam, connecting with Marcel Reed as he caught the ball down the field.
Ohrstrom wouldn't just be the hit-or-miss receiver that we've seen throughout this season. This was a game where Reed was looking heavily at his tight ends.
Tre Watson could've had a long catch on the near sideline in the first half but Reed overthrew him. Watson would finish with four grabs for 67 yards. Make it a combined nine catches for the tight ends—more than anything Jabre Barber, Jahdae Walker and Noah Thomas would get all night.
This would be a big step for Reed to get more passes in the game to his tight ends. As the Texas A&M receivers have sometimes gone cold themselves, this should be an opportunity for Ohrstrom and Watson to get more reps against Auburn and Texas.
The receivers are going to have to get as many reps as possible against Texas. The coaching staff should be thinking about "the more, the merrier" approach.
If the tight ends are able to be effective and take some of the pressure off the receivers, this could make for the Ags to make up for the injury to Allen.
