Lane Kiffin's trolling can't erase sting of Texas A&M football flipping future star

With the interminable trolling attempts by Lane Kiffin towards Texas A&M football, one wonders what gives him the stamina.

Texas A&M football fans should be well acquainted by now with Lane Kiffin's trollish demeanor online. The Ole Miss head coach, for whatever interpersonal faults he clearly has, has gained an infamous reputation for his oblique online jabs.

Well, sometimes they're oblique. Sometimes, they're pretty straightforward.

Such was the case today when Kiffin tweeted out an article from our sister site, Garnet and Cocky. The article in question was about Harrison "Trey" Wallace, a former Penn State receiver, being set to visit South Carolina.

Not long after the fact, Kiffin was retweeting articles about Wallace announcing his commitment to Ole Miss. As it turns out, though Wallace had been set to visit South Carolina, he cut that visit short as his decision had been made.

On3's Pete Nakos chimed in, commenting that Kiffin's "trolling is hitting new levels."

A similar occurrence took place earlier in the transfer portal cycle, when an Arkansas DB committed to both A&M and Ole Miss within hours of each other. The Rebels ended with the upper hand in that one, and Kiffin took to Twitter to gloat over Mike Elko's commitment tweet.

This was not the first time that Kiffin had taken a shot at Elko, either. Some fans thought that Kiffin's fixation with the Aggies would pass by now that Jimbo Fisher, who once drew Kiffin's ire for calling him a "clown," was now out the door. Apparently that's not the case, however.

So that raises the question: why does Kiffin have such animus for the Aggies? It certainly seems like he's calling them out more than anyone— though that may be confirmation bias.

Call me crazy, but I think over the past two years in particular, Kiffin has been burned up by one eventuality in particular: that the Aggies flipped his quarterback, Marcel Reed, in the 2023 class.

Despite what Kiffin tried to put forth after the fact, I think he was pretty excited about Reed's potential. That would certainly make sense given what we've seen out of him in this previous season.

Marcel grew from something of an afterthought— an exciting fourth-string QB who put a great bowl game performance together— to one of the brighest young players in the conference this year. With a cadre of receivers around him, the sky is really the limit for Reed next year.

Reed has star potential. From Kiffin's point of view, though Jaxson Dart has been really solid, the electricity we've seen out of Marcel as he's grown leaps and bounds, even over the course of this season, portends something really special coming. And no matter how much Kiffin tries to tweet through it, that fact will always sting.
