Mark Matthews, the crown jewel of Texas A&M's 2027 recruiting class as the top offensive lineman in the nation and the no. 2 player overall, is one of the most highly-sought-after names in the nation, as you might expect. The Aggies did a lot to pull him out of the Miami area when Mario Cristobal and company were so hard after him, but even as they pulled that off, they knew this would be a difficult battle until the end.
So far, Adam Cushing and Elko have done a great job continuing to show Matthews just how highly-valued he is as a player. However, other schools have still done everything they possibly can to sway him in his decision, with two in particular making the hardest charge— LSU and Miami.
After his high school game last night, Matthews was his typical self in an impromptu interview— showing all the love in the world for the Aggies and their staff. However, he revealed that he intends to make his way to one of these schools for a gameday visit this year— something that could unnerve Aggie fans... but, in reality, there's no reason to worry.

You can see the first bit of the video in the clip below, where Matthews is as effusive as ever about his love for the Aggies, but in a short follow-up posted on Youtube, he reveals that he will be making his way to LSU at some point during the season.

Is that a reason for Aggie fans to worry? Not in the slightest. Texas A&M has built much stronger relationships with Matthews than any other school in the country— that's why they were able to get him to commit in the first place, and that's not something that is going to change going forward.
Something else that won't change is the hot pursuit of Matthews by these other schools. Texas A&M's class is the envy of every other school in the nation right now, and so everyone that can is going to make a run at the crown— and the most effective way to do that is by stripping the Aggies of their top-rated commitment.
LSU under Kiffin is recruiting well enough right now, but not necessarily outstandingly compared to their baseline— after all, his normal M.O. is to raid the portal rather than the high school ranks. Miami seems in several ways to be the bigger threat, as they are not only the hometown team for Matthews, but are led by a much better recruiter in Mario Cristobal— a guy who specializes in recruiting offensive lineman, to boot.
But the combination of Adam Cushing, Mike Elko, and Texas A&M as an institution has proven too tough for even the top recruiters in the nation to overcome in many cases. Though schools like Miami and LSU are going to continue to come after Matthews and other Aggie commits, don't expect to see any peel off unless something goes horribly wrong with A&M's season.
