Mike Elko will be playing his first-ever matchup against Lane Kiffin's LSU as a head coach in the toughest possible environment. Kickoff times for week four of college football were announced today, and Texas A&M found out that they will be squaring off with the Bayou Bengals at 6:30 PM CT— in other words, a night game in Death Valley.

Aggie fans are, of course, less than surprised at this. The Tigers consistently are given night games for nearly every matchup, and six of the last seven times A&M has visited Baton Rouge have been in the late slot.
The game will be broadcast on ABC, meaning it will be the premier SEC game of the weekend, and therefore the first exposure many fans across the nation will have to the 2026 edition of the Aggies. Elko and company will have to bring their best game thus far to this one, as Tiger fans will no doubt be out for blood after what happened last year.
It is that result from the previous season that can give Aggie fans some hope here, though. There were many things about that game that were very different, of course, but the Aggies marched right into the middle of Tiger Stadium and tore Brian Kelly's team to shreds, leading to his dismissal only days later.

That's not a heck of a lot of comfort, though, given how different things are right now compared to how they were then. The Aggies caught LSU on an all-time low vibes-wise last season, and right now, they're riding pretty high (except for all the courtroom drama, I guess).
The one thing that could work in A&M's favor here is that the Tigers will be coming off of a trip to Ole Miss, which will no doubt be a highly emotional game for LSU. That has everything to do with Lane Kiffin's unceremonious exit last year, and also the fact that he ended up taking a good number of players with him to Baton Rouge, all of whom will be pretty up for this game.
That roster turnover means that there are also far fewer players on this LSU team than there would ordinarily be who remember the insult of the Aggies emptying out Tiger Stadium and turning it into an A&M pep rally. This will definitely be a motivation tactic for Kiffin and company in the preceding week, but it may not be all that strong.
Elko has only faced off with Kiffin's offense once, back in 2021 when the Aggies took a road trip to Ole Miss for a ranked matchup at night. That didn't end up great for A&M, but Elko's unit still held a potent Ole Miss attack to under 30 points when all was said and done— and this Aggie defense could well end up better than that one.
Nevertheless, the Aggies have their work cut out for them. The Tigers will be their first true top-level test, but A&M has faced them down before— and given the fact that Marcel Reed still haunts Blake Baker's nightmares, the Aggies could be in for an unthinkable second-straight victory in Death Valley at night.
