Mike Elko's vague Daymion Sanford update will do nothing to calm worried fans

After a gruesome-looking injury to one of his team captains, the head man for the Aggies didn't do much to talk fans down.

Texas A&M's spring game had some big moments for Aggie fans, but the entire thing was overshadowed by a pretty bad injury to team captain Daymion Sanford. Sanford was playing hard as you'd expect when he suddenly got rolled up on by a teammate in the midst of a physical run play.

Unfortunately, he had to be carted off with what looked like an injury to his ankle, which had fans immediately very worried about his status. While there was plenty to take away from this game, both positive and negative, this eventuality really took the wind out of the sails of many Aggie fans.

Mike Elko was, as you'd expect, asked about this development after the conclusion of the game. His answer was not what many Texas A&M fans wanted to hear, and it will do little to talk worried fans off of the ledge after this loss of a potential breakout player.

In the immediate aftermath of the game, Elko likely didn't have all the information that he may have later on, but he remained mum on Sanford's status, whatever the case:

This is really not a lot for fans to go on. We knew it was a lower body issue, as his ankle appeared to be where he sustained the injury, and the medical team put an air cast on him before putting him on the cart.

The Aggies are losing a massive piece of this upcoming season's defense if Sanford is out for a while. His athleticism is sorely needed now that Taurean York and Scooby Williams are gone, but the Aggies do have Noah Mikhail waiting in the wings at the linebacker position as well.

Hopefully, the next bit of news that Texas A&M fans get on Sanford is positive. There's still quite a bit of time before the season begins, so Sanford will have time to recover if the injury is not a massive or major one— but until we know, fans will be sitting in an uncomfortable silence.
