Texas A&M football players with rising stock after spring football: Marcus Ratcliffe

The true sophomore transfer from San Diego State was a guy that came in with a lot of potential at the safety position. Due to his youth, however, I thought it may be a while before he became a regular contributor.

Following this spring, however, I no longer think he needs to wait that long. Ratcliffe is a guy that can step in right away and contribute to this rotation. He’s been turning heads all spring, and with the current depth on the back end for the Aggies, I think he can be a legit player sooner rather than later.

Ratcliffe made some strong plays in the spring game. He recorded a sack within the first few plays on a safety blitz that he executed to perfection, and was in the right place more often than not during the rest of the game.

His one negative play was when Noah Thomas got lost behind the defense. As Ratcliffe closed out, he didn’t get his head around in time, and Thomas climbed the ladder to make a difficult catch.

Still, though, when you’re going up against a guy with talent like that, such a play can be forgiven. I came away overall way more impressed with Ratcliffe than I thought I would be, and I wouldn’t be surprised to see a heavy dose of him in the fall.
