Power ranking the SEC after week 2: #13 Auburn

b. . . 525. . Previous ranking: 10. . team. . 13

Well… I guess the Auburn passing game isn’t quite fixed yet. After the aforementioned smorgasbord of deep balls against an overmatched Alabama A&M squad, the Tigers had to go up against the ironclad defense of the, uh, Cal Golden Bears.

What resulted was offensive to the sensibilities of any self-respecting offense appreciator. Payton Thorne saw fit to throw not one, not two, not three, but FOUR interceptions against the Bears. The Tigers also lost a fumble to end the game at a whopping minus five in the turnover margin.

It’s not as if the defense looked amazing, either. I don’t think Cal is some juggernaut on the offensive side of the ball, and they were able to move things along pretty consistently against this unit for the Tigers, especially through the air.

Another SEC-ACC matchup going the wrong way! Disappointing. Auburn will have to get things in shape quickly before receiving a visit from the Oklahoma Sooners here in a couple of weeks. Though OU has their own struggles, their defense looks solid so far.
