Power ranking the SEC after week 12: #6 - Tennessee

The Vols went 1-for-2 in their biggest games of the year. Unfortunately, they also lost a complete stinker to Arkansas, which has effectively knocked them out of contention for an SEC championship, barring some major chaos here down the stretch.

The Vols played valiantly against Georgia on the road, but the Bulldogs were too much to overcome when all was said and done. Nico Iamaleava passed for only 5.1 YPA, his lowest of the year, against that ferocious Georgia secondary.

They still managed to cobble together a better offensive performance in Athens than did Texas at home against the Bulldogs, though, which should be some solace. They’ll have a solid case for inclusion in the playoff when selection Sunday comes.

That is, they’ll have a solid case if they don’t drop either of their last two: a buy game against UTEP and a road rivalry contest against Vanderbilt. Tennessee should win that latter one, of course, but you can never be too sure with this year’s edition of Vandy.
