Even Buzz Williams has admitted that his team's talent isn't overwhelming.
The Aggies have one more game to get through before they head into SEC play for 2025.
Going with what Williams has said, and evaluating this Aggie team this season, the roster is starting to look like a team that reminded me of a Final Four team from a few years back. No glitz and glamour, just a smart team led by toughness and defense.
Texas A&M basketball has similar comparisons to Houston team in 2020-21 season
Houston basketball brought a different feel to college basketball temporarily.
Led still today by head coach Kelvin Sampson, the Cougars presented themselves with heart and hustle, fighting through adversity as a team that was tough, but still a team that can fight back if they were down in the second half.
Texas A&M presents that same type of feel for the game.
Of course, Houston still had guys leading their way on offense, such as current NBA players Quentin Grimes and Marcus Sasser. Wade Taylor IV would arguably be considered the best offensive player for the Aggies.
It wouldn't look pretty at times, but Houston would win plenty of ball games that helped them grab the No. 2 seed in the NCAA tournament, where they went all the way to the Final Four to eventually go down to the eventual champion Baylor Bears.
Texas A&M has had ugly games this year too. They beat Wake Forest 57-44 in the SEC-ACC Challenge but at times, didn't show their best on offense. They had more than enough defense and rebounding to cancel out the ugliness.
This will be quite a battle in the SEC this year, and from the early look of it, Texas A&M is prepared for conference play.
Their disappointing start to the season against UCF looks like a distant memory at this point. The Aggies just need to hold their heads high and go to battle, because they will be in plenty of them this season.
