One of the most meaningful days for Texas A&M’s offseason has arrived.

The No.1 offensive tackle in the nation, Mark Matthews, is announcing where he will call home on May 15, and Aggie fans are dreaming of seeing him in the maroon and white in the near future. If Texas A&M pulls this off and signs the monster tackle, not only would it be an amazing addition to an already great class, but one of the greatest steals of the year.

The Fort Lauderdale, Florida, native is a hot commodity in college football, as all the top programs in the nation put their name in the hat to try and land the tackle. After a grueling process that had Aggie fans holding their breath, Matthews has narrowed down his selection to Texas A&M, Miami, Georgia and LSU.

As it’s close to home, Miami is a team that is looming in the decision-making process, but Matthews's choosing to commit before his visit might show otherwise. Matthews seems to be inching closer to choosing College Station, but only time will tell if he is going to join one of the best classes in the nation.

If the Aggies were to land Matthews, he would make five five-stars in the 2027 class. Texas A&M already has a solid offensive line core built up in the class, with three of the top 12 tackles in the nation already committed to the Aggies. Matthews would sure up the unit for the future and would make it hard for other top programs to secure good talent up front.

The young tackle would also allow Texas A&M to make a push towards the best recruiting class in the nation. The Aggies are sitting at No.2 behind Oklahoma currently, but with the addition of Matthews, the race would become a lot more narrow, especially considering how many more commits Oklahoma has at this point.

On the other hand, if the Aggies don’t hear their name called by Matthews, they might have to do some extra recruiting to shore up their offensive line. Texas A&M could give the No.7 tackle in the nation, Caden Moss, a call, as he is still uncommitted. Or, they could go a little closer to home and go all in on Brian Swanson, from Dallas, Texas.

Weeks of anxiety, eagerness and everything in between have led up to this moment. Will Matthews make College Station his home, or will the Aggies lose out on a sure-to-be college football superstar? Time will tell, but one thing is for sure: this decision will change college football.
