Texas A&M can draw only one conclusion from 5-star Mark Matthews decision date

The longtime Aggie target has been an A&M and Miami battle down the stretch, and now, with a decision date announced, there's one thing fans can be sure of.

Texas A&M's top remaining target, five-star offensive lineman Mark Matthews, has been taking Aggie fans on quite the emotional roller coaster over the last few weeks. There was a surge of Texas A&M momentum in recent days, but though many thought a commitment was imminent, Miami and Mario Cristobal were able to stem the tide.

The hometown Hurricanes even got Matthews to schedule a visit for the end of the month, which possibly signaled that the Ags were falling back behind. However, the latest announcement from Matthews, who was previously mentioning that he might wait until after his official visits to commit, now has Aggie fans feeling elated.

The five-star offensive lineman and number one tackle in the country has announced that he will be committing this Friday, May 15. That is great news for the Aggies, as they still currently hold the momentum in this one, though nothing is over until it's over.

5-star OL Mark Matthews sets a decision date that Texas A&M fans will love

The common thought has been that, if Miami were to get back in the middle of this recruitment, they would have to get Matthews back on campus first. Even that may not have been enough to dissuade him from the lean towards Texas A&M, but if they had a shot, it was that.

Now, if Matthews is indeed committing on the 15th, he will be doing so before he heads to Miami for a visit. That means that the Aggies have to be the pick, and that lines up with the predictions that we've seen continue to stay on the maroon and white from the national recruiting experts.

Miami and Cristobal have already proven that they are not going away without a fight, however. Texas A&M will have to stay frosty in these final days: though Matthews seems to be leaning towards them, the Aggies will have to keep on top of things, as if Cristobal has an ace in the hole, now is the time to play it.

This would be a massive, landscape-changing commitment for Texas A&M and Mike Elko if all goes according to plan, however. Matthews could end up being the linchpin of the nation's number one class before all is said and done— and that is music to Texas A&M fans' ears.
