Mark Schlabach of ESPN listed Marcel Reed as a way-too-early candidate in the 2026 Heisman race.

Texas A&M fans know that Reed is a mobile athlete who took a giant leap in his sophomore season, and if he lives up to his potential, he can be one of the best in the country. He finished his 2025 season with 3,169 passing yards and 31 touchdowns. 25 through the air, six on the ground.

Are fans ready to pin that pressure on Reed? After the Miami game in the College Football Playoff, some fans may not be sold just yet.

Marcel Reed listed as a way-too-early Heisman candidate

Texas A&M fans were done with Reed after his collapse in the Miami game. Believe it or not, it was actually Miami's worst game in the playoffs, but fans saw Reed collapse at the worst time, and A&M fans had enough.

To be fair to Reed, he's much better than Conner Weigman in 2024, and he was a breath of fresh air when Weigman was holding the team back. A&M fans need to remember that Reed is our guy and give him time to get things together. Fans need to be careful about going after him, or else he might find himself in the portal by next season.

Other names in the article were Ohio State WR Jeremiah Smith, Miami WR Malachi Toney, Georgia QB Gunner Stockton and Oregon QB Dante Moore. Reed has a far way to go to reach those guys, but this is a testament to what he can do in 2026.
