Texas A&M football is gearing up ahead of their bowl game against USC.
Since their loss against Texas, the Aggies have undergone some major events. We've seen departures but also big time signings for the Aggie football program.
While head coach Mike Elko took some time talking to the media today, he mentioned another major shift of a positive culture change when it comes to their upcoming bowl game against the Trojans.
Elko refers to low amount of opt-outs for Vegas Bowl
When Elko was asked about opt-outs, he revealed that only three players will opt-out of the Vegas Bowl.
Those three guys, aren't as surprising as it may seem. Elko mentioned that Nic Scourton, Shemar Stewart and Shemar Turner as the "main guys" that will not play in the bowl game.
It wasn't long after that until another reporter asked Elko almost in shock about the amount of main guys opting out.
When that reporter asked about it not being uncommon to see a significant number of opt-outs, Elko responded in a way that makes the Aggie football program look bright and professional.
"I think it probably speaks to culture. For some of our seniors, I think there's an opportunity for them to go out there have a really big game against a main brand like USC and vault their status moving forward into NFL offseason," Elko said.
This was also an opportunity for Elko to understand this new era of college bowl games. He mentioned that he supports certain players opting out, saying that some don't need to go through a bowl game just to potentially hurt their draft stock.
"For some of them, it didn't make sense for them to play anymore games. I think our kids trust in the culture here, they just in the coaches, they trust what we're saying," Elko said.
