Texas A&M fans were hopeful for some time that Cam Coleman would end up wearing the Maroon and White this upcoming season, but recent days had tamped that optimism down. While the Aggies began to believe that they were not going to be the choice, there was one destination they hoped that Coleman would not end up at.
That, of course, was Texas. As the Longhorns continued to bleed more and more players to the transfer portal, though, Aggie fans became aware that the Texas brass, desperate for good PR, were about to make a huge swing for Coleman to shift things around— and it looks like that's exactly what happened.
Funnily enough, it was A&M media that became aware of this development before Texas media, which tells you something about the quality of reporting going on in each camp. That reporting has now come to fruition, as Aggie fans opened up social media this afternoon to see that Coleman was headed to Austin.
Texas A&M forced to pivot after Cam Coleman heads to their greatest rival
Among a crowded field of the Aggies— where it had been reported all along that Coleman had the greatest relationships, given his year-long commitment there during high school— Texas Tech, Texas, and Alabama, the Longhorns made themselves, by hook or by crook, stand out with what they were offering.

The Aggies will now pivot quickly, likely to Alabama receiver Isaiah Horton, who has been on campus this weekend with Texas A&M and Mike Elko. The number two receiver in the portal has been high on the Aggies, and— it should be said— has outperformed Coleman in their head to head Iron Bowl matchup.
This is a blow for sure, but Elko is still building a very solid portal class that addresses the Aggies' biggest needs. Texas A&M is well-positioned heading into next year with or without Coleman— now, the focus in his regard turns to how to shut him down when the Longhorns come to town.
