Texas A&M is on the verge of adding their QB of the future with impending commitment

Texas A&M football has blossomed into one of the nation’s premier programs under Mike Elko, adding elite talent at nearly every single position on the field, but if you were to ask a random Aggie fan about where they’d like to see another big name added, the near-unanimous answer would be simple: at the quarterback position.

Though Marcel Reed is definitely an underrated player and a guy that most of the nation is sleeping on heading into his third year as a starter for the Aggies, he’s not a guy that most around the country see as a top-level quarterback— and there is a vocal minority of Texas A&M fans that agree with that sentiment. Reed has a chance to disprove that narrative this year, but even setting that aside, there’s not a heck of a lot behind him right now in College Station— fans are hoping for Brady Hart to turn out to be a star, but that’s only a hope right now.

With new offensive coordinator Holmon Wiggins at the helm, though, the Aggies are searching far and wide for their quarterback of the future— a guy who can fully and completely take advantage fo all of the weapons that Texas A&M has recruited at other positions and lift them to a championship level. With a commitment coming up soon, the Aggies are looking to have found just that in Michigan QB Donald Tabron.

Texas A&M on the precipice of most significant 2028 recruiting win yet in Donald Tabron

The Aggies have received several predictions to add the dual-threat passer out of Cass Technical in Michigan, and his recent announcement has to have Aggies feeling good. Tabron is set to announce his commitment this Saturday, August 15, and will be choosing between LSU, Oregon, and Texas A&M.

Tabron, who ranks as the third-best quarterback in the nation for the 2028 cycle, is clearly one of the most coveted passers in the country. The fact that he’s choosing between the Aggies, LSU, and Oregon should show that as well: Lane Kiffin and Dan Lanning both run programs with extremely QB-friendly offensive systems, and routinely have their passers in the top echelon of QBs in the nation.

Despite that fact, the Aggies still look to rank as the leaders in the clubhouse for Tabron. This is a guy that every program in the country wants due to his athleticism and accuracy throwing the football, and as of right now, it’s the Aggies who are head and shoulders above the rest.

There’s a conversation to be had about who should take the reins of this Aggie program once Marcel Reed departs, and by the time Tabron gets to campus, the Ags could be right smack dab in the middle of a big time QB battle. Reed has another year of eligibility after this one, so he could be the guy in 2027 and bridge right over to Tabron in 2028.

In that year, this massive 2027 recruiting class will be beginning to come into their own, and we could see Tabron captain the offense for that new era. He has the skill set to be a top-level QB in the country, and if he is able to live up to that promise, it could be him that leads the Aggies to the promised land under Mike Elko— that is, if they don’t make it there in the next two years.

Of course, Tabron hasn’t even pledged to Texas A&M yet— there’s a long way to go before we see that take place. However, the momentum right now definitely favors him choosing the maroon and white— hopefully, that’s what we see win out this Saturday.
