Texas A&M losing out on the Landen Williams-Callis sweepstakes to the in-state Longhorns was certainly a blow to their hopes for the position in the 2027 class, but if we know one thing, it’s that Trooper Taylor isn’t just going to lay down and let this loss make him give up. There are still plenty of running back options out there, even if the top name on your board has decided to head elsewhere.
Something similar happened last year, when Jonathan Hatton, Jr., flipped to Oklahoma in the waning days of the recruiting cycle. The Aggies could have been more than happy sticking with KJ Edwards, but Taylor went out and flipped a big time target in Carsyn Baker, who is now already tearing it up in fall camp for the Aggies.
So, is there a Carsyn Baker out there this year for the Aggies— a running back who they can target, no matter who he’s committed to, that they can end up flipping? Turns out, there’s a clear answer— and Trooper is already on the trail.
Texas A&M must target Texas Tech commit SaRod Baker for their 2027 RB
Texas Tech has not been known lately for having their commitments flip elsewhere (for obvious reasons), but the Aggies would be wise to take a look at DeSoto RB SaRod Baker, who is currently pledged to the Red Raiders. In fact, the Aggies have already been taking a long look at Baker, who visited Texas A&M over the summer despite being committed to Joey McGuire and company.
Though this is a guy that the Aggies have been working on for a while, Baker came back to the forefront of Texas A&M fans’ minds with this highlight run he put on tape in high school football action over the weekend:
Absolutely insane run by the Texas Tech commit here 💪🏼 https://t.co/0bYWG9n0DQ

The power on display from Baker here is eye-catching, to say the least— and though the Aggies were going for a shiftier type of runner in LWC, you can never have too many backs with this kind of drive and effort on your roster. It would be a change in strategy on that level, but with a running back who has this kind of talent, you can make do.
Of course, getting Baker to waver from his Red Raider pledge is going to be more than just a little difficult. Texas Tech and Cody Campbell have made no secret of their commitment to the modern era of college football, trying to build the program up into a power after years of mediocrity— and bringing in high-level recruits with that strategy is key for them to succeed.
That in mind, the Aggies will have to be as relentless in their pursuit of Baker as he was on this run in pursuit of a score. Luckily, they have the man for the job in Trooper Taylor— he has yet to let a cycle pass him by on this staff where he hasn’t made a splash on the trail.
