Marcel Reed saved his worst two games for his last in 2025, and while it was enough to draw criticism from A&M fans, they need to be careful.
Reed is the best they've got. He's QB1 for the remaining future. Barring a total collapse in his game, nobody will take that title away from him, for at least the time being. Of course, just like any kid who works his way up, Reed is eyeing a spot in the NFL one day, but there's a lot that needs to happen, according to one Texas A&M writer.
Jeff Tarpley of GigEm247 says that Reed is still going through the same growing pains that haunted him in his first season.
Marcel Reed has some work to do before he thinks about the NFL
"As of right now, Reed's game probably isn't suited to the NFL as the league probably would like it to be. He needs to work on certain aspects of his passing in order to become more accurate. You would like to think that should help him cut down on his turnovers in addition to making tighter window throws in crucial moments, issues that he had in their last two contests of 2025."Jeff Tarpley
Accuracy issues were the story of Reed's first season, but that continued over his last two games. In the Texas and Miami games, Reed threw four interceptions in his last two games. Not the resume he wanted to finish out with.
His strengths are running the football when he's under pressure. Under pressure throwing the ball is a different story. Reed threw for 2,932 yards, 25 touchdowns and 10 interceptions while rushing for 466 yards and six touchdowns. His mobility is clearly a strength while he needs to work on accuracy when he's under some heat.
However, Tarpley didn't throw Reed completely under the bus, and even complimented his strengths.
"His strengths aren't what you see reflected in the guys that the league has projected to be starting quarterbacks in recent years. Even the dual threat quarterbacks that they have taken high in the draft have been highly accurate guys, in the 65% to 70% completion range. They normally don't get into double digits on turnovers. They throw for 30 plus scores a season."Jeff Tarpley
Reed has a chance to stay with Texas A&M in 2027 season, giving him plenty of time for his draft stock to still improve. Texas A&M is preparing for a historic NFL Draft season, but that doesn't mean Reed doesn't have the resources to get the ultimate job done in the future.
If he improves in his accuracy, he will no doubt have a shot to make an NFL roster.
