Texas A&M baseball will not play a game today after an hours-long weather delay pushed up into curfew time for their final game against the Texas Longhorns. That was not the worst outcome for Aggie fans, who, though they wanted to play, will definitely be happy with the two game to zero lead that the Ags would have entered today's contest with.
The Aggies and Longhorns were scheduled to throw out the first pitch at 1 PM central, but consistent rain throughout the day kept on pushing back the start time. However, as the 10 PM curfew drew closer and closer, optimism about the game actually taking place kept falling.
Once the decision was made, the Texas buses couldn't get out of there fast enough. The Aggies have thoroughly waxed the Longhorns over the course of this weekend, and it's clear that Texas feels they need time to regroup after being blitzed so thoroughly.
Texas A&M and Texas baseball game canceled after hours-long weather delay
Jim Schlossnagle had no doubt had enough of the relentless pressure that the crowd at Olsen Field was placing on him and his team, and was ready to get back to Austin sooner rather than later. His return to Blue Bell did not go as he had expected, clearly, but it was more than good enough for Aggie fans.
Texas A&M is the only SEC team yet this season to defeat Texas in a three-game series, and they could be the last for a while given how weak Texas's schedule is relative to the conference. This will be a massive data point for the Aggies going forward, especially when it comes time to consider their tournament resume.
Of course, if Aggie fans had their druthers, they would have this game played so that they could get one more crack at College Station's public enemy number one. They'll have to wait for another time— perhaps in Hoover, or in a regional in Blue Bell Park— to get that chance, but coming away with a two-game sweep is good enough for now.
