For Texas A&M and every other school involved in the pursuit of Cam Coleman, this high-profile recruitment has been long and twisting— and, above all else, extremely opaque. You'd expect nothing less with a player of this caliber working with an agent like David Mulugheta, of course, but fanbases across the country are on pins and needles waiting to see how this all pans out.
As we approach what some hope to be the waning days of this recruitment and Coleman finishes out all of his visits— this final one being to Tuscaloosa— news broke that the Aggies are hosting a high-profile transfer portal visitor in Isaiah Horton at some point in the near future. That in mind, thoughts immediately leapt into the minds of Aggie fans that this was some kind of Coleman insurance policy or plan B if Texas A&M doesn't end up being the pick— which couldn't be further from the truth.
Texas A&M's pursuit of Cam Coleman is not affected by hosting Isaiah Horton
First things first: Horton is a high-level player in his own right, and a guy that every school in the country— especially those with a need at receiver— would want to host on campus. In that respect, that the Aggies have an opportunity to bring him onto campus is something that they should not pass up.
Second of all, the idea of resource allocation being a barrier should not trouble the minds of Aggie fans. Texas A&M is a big time player in the portal market, and Mike Elko's extension explicitly commanded a greater commitment to resources that the Aggies can put towards landing players like this.
It very well could be that the Aggies end up landing Coleman and Horton decides to cancel his visit. But as of right now, what the Aggies are doing is simply making sure they have options— they don't want to get caught flat-footed if the Auburn pass-catcher heads elsewhere. This is a smart move by the coaching staff, and there's no doubt that both players are aware that the Aggies are involved in the recruitment of the other.
It does not seem likely that the Aggies would land both players, but recruiting one is not a barrier to recruiting the other. This staff knows what they're doing, and are working the portal in the exact manner that they should.
