The Texas A&M women’s basketball team rallied from 17 points down to defeat the DePaul Blue Demons 80-79 in the second round of the NCAA Tournament.

You know the saying “I’ve seen’em lose and I’ve seen’em win, but I’ve never seen’em quit?” That pretty much sums up the 2018 Texas A&M women’s basketball team.

The Aggies were down by as much as 17 in their second round game against fifth seed DePaul, but kept fighting and won it 80-79 on an absolute bonkers three pointer by Freshman of the Year Chennedy Carter.

Want to know why there was no competition for that honor? Watch this:

Jasmine Lumpkin stole DePaul’s inbound pass with 1.5 seconds left to seal the game for the Aggies.

The Blue Demons controlled a majority of the game, and did well to stifle and confuse Carter for the entire first half. She was held to just five points, while the Blue Demons drained threes like they were the home team. They finished the game 12-31 from deep.

Every time the Aggies would get something going, DePaul answered with a run of their own. They went into halftime up 43-28. The Blue Demons would stretch that lead to 45-28 before the Aggies finally started making moves. Or more accurately, before Carter started taking over the game.

Carter finished the game with 37 points, 32 of which came in the second half. 32 points in the final 20 minutes, including the game winning shot. I wouldn’t have believed it if I hadn’t been there watching it.

Anriel Howard had another double-double for the Aggies with 18 points and 19 rebounds as well.

Four of DePaul’s five starters finished the game in double digits, and Tanita Allen came off the bench to add 19.

The only women’s game I’ve ever been to that rivals this one was in 2008 when the No. 12 Aggies upset then No. 2 Oklahoma thanks to a last second layup by Takia Starks. That win ended a 20 game win streak for the Sooners.

The Aggies now own two of the four biggest comebacks in the history of the women’s NCAA Tournament. You may remember they fought back from down 21 against Penn in the first round of the 2017 tournament to win 63-61.

Up next, the Aggies travel to Spokane, Washington where they will face the winner of No. 1 Notre Dame and No. 9 Villanova, in what would be a rematch of the 2011 title game. Texas A&M won that game 76-71 in Indianapolis, Indiana.
