Texas A&M fans are growing more and more confident with this key recruitment thanks to the way things have been unfolding lately.

Texas A&M fans were hoping that their staff could make a huge move with the nation's top-ranked corner, John Meredith, when he came to campus last weekend for an official visit. It was a coup to get him to move up the visit in the first place, as the Longhorns had a lot of momentum in the recruitment previous to this, but the staff was able to get it done.

By all accounts, it sounds like Texas A&M knocked this one out of the park and are right back in the thick of things. We should expect nothing less, of course— the Aggies have been recruiting lights-out during this cycle, and they have a longstanding relationship with Meredith that was the cause of them leading in this recruitment for quite some time.

However, it's still notable thanks to the fact that so many anticipated Meredith ending up a Longhorn at some point prior to this. Now, the Aggies are back battling for the top spot in this one— and a recent development could show that they are actually fully back in the driver's seat.

Texas A&M could have wrested back control of John Meredith recruitment from Longhorns

Not only was Texas A&M playing host to the nation's top-ranked corner this past weekend, but they are doing so once again today, as Meredith showed up in College Station for yet another visit.

This is significant in and of itself. Though there is obviously a tangible reason for Meredith to be on campus today— he's competing in a seven-on-seven event with his high school team, North Crowley— it's a big move for Texas A&M to get him back to College Station only days after he was there for an outstanding official visit. You can bet that the staff knows he's here and is doing whatever they can to hammer their message home.

The best part for Aggie fans? Meredith clearly knows and resonates with that message— that College Station is home for him. That speaks to the relationships that this staff has built with him and his family, and demonstrates that things are beginning to trend positively.

Things won't be easy over the next few weeks, of course. Meredith still has to take a visit to Austin this upcoming weekend, which the Aggies will have to weather. Any change of plans, of course, will be quite noteworthy for the Ags— but it's hard to see Meredith declining to head over to Austin with how tight this recruitment has been.

There are no doubt more twists and turns ahead for the Aggies here. Even if Meredith ends up committing elsewhere, Texas A&M will still pursue him, despite having the best alternative possible with where they are in Joshua Dobson's recruitment.

Overall, though, things are feeling a lot more positive here than they did even a week ago. To get Meredith on campus twice in a few days is a great development for the Aggies— and it's even better to hear him continuing to talk about Texas A&M in the way that he did when the Ags were his leader.
