Aggie fans are still basking in the afterglow of their massive recruiting win, getting the commitment of St. Thomas Aquinas offensive lineman Mark Matthews over the hometown Miami Hurricanes. Mario Cristobal will be haunted by this one for quite some time to come, especially with how everything went down— but Matthews may still have more yet left in the chamber to aggravate the Hurricanes head man.
You see, the Aggies are far from done recruiting five-stars from the state of Florida, and they are battling hard with the Hurricanes for several targets. Miami themselves have even begun to go after some Aggie commits, with five-star safety Jayquan Snell becoming a Hurricane target recently.
Matthews isn't planning on coming alone to College Station, though. In an interview immediately following his commitment, the nation's top offensive lineman opened up about some of the big time targets that he is already recruiting to join him in Aggieland.
Texas A&M commit Mark Matthews already recruiting several other 5-stars to Aggieland
You can watch the interview here, with Matthews detailing his plans for recruitment at about the twenty second mark.
It’s safe to say Mark Matthews (@mark95matthews) is happy to be an Aggie 🤠

He’s also planning to recruit some more 5⭐️s to join him in College Station at the next level 👍

Matthews names Kaden Henderson as the first name he's looking to bring with him to College Station— and he's just the guy to do it, as Henderson is currently down to the Aggies and Miami (with Notre Dame in the picture as well). Matthews can let Henderson know that the right place for him is in Aggieland, not the 305.
He also begins to mention a second player, but then cuts himself off. From the video, it sounds like he says "Eric," which would most likely mean Eric McFarland, a five-star receiver who attends IMG Academy in Bradenton, Florida. McFarland is high on the Aggies and could be the next player to jump in the boat for Elko's squad.
Having such a huge national name helping you recruit will go a long way. This is one of those things where it starts to snowball once the class gets good enough, and we are already reaching that kind of point thanks to the energy that Matthews brings.
If he can get these other players to hop on board with Texas A&M, then the number one class in the nation is all but assured for the Aggies in this upcoming cycle— something that would have been unthinkable only months ago. The fruits of this staff's labor are becoming evident, though— everything is starting to break right for them in this cycle.
The player that Aggie fans would love Matthews' help with is John Meredith, of course. The five-star cornerback is an A&M and Texas battle right now, but getting a guy of Matthews' caliber on recruiting him could help the Aggies seize back some momentum from the Longhorns.
All in all, that Matthews is on the job here for the Aggies is an awesome development for their class. Both of the two players he mentioned have been leaning towards the Ags for some time— hopefully, with a little push, they will end up leaning in and committing here presently.
