Texas A&M baseball secures commitment of Penn transfer Wyatt Henseler after LSU, Texas attempted to poach hard-hitting grad transfer
It's hard to imagine what a better 48 hours would look like for Texas A&M baseball from a roster standpoint. Yesterday, Jace LaViolette and Gavin Grahovac reaffirmed their commitment to the Aggies. Today, Kaeden Kent, Justin Lamkin, and Caden Sorrell all confirmed that they would be returning to College Station next year.
Mixed in there, too, was the Aggies landing a couple of huge bats from the portal in the forms of Gavin Kash from Texas Tech (the top available player) and catcher Jacob Galloway from USC. Michael Earley is off to a roaring start, in other words.
The final, huge piece of this puzzle to turn this Aggie lineup into the deadliest it can be was getting Penn transfer Wyatt Henseler to recommit. The former Penn Quaker is a prodigious hitter, batting .365 with 22 HRs and 56 RBIs last season alone, so it's no surprise that—once Schloss departed—both the Texas and LSU staffs tried to get him to back off of his A&M commitment.
It almost worked, too. Things were shaky for a while there, but it looks like Earley has done his thing once more. Henseler announced today that he would be sticking with his original commitment and would be coming to the Aggies for his final year.
The level of roster moves that first time head coach Michael Earley has been able to pull off in these opening days of his tenure with Aggie baseball is nigh unbelievable. This is seriously a batting lineup that is, somehow, an upgrade from last year's—and that's considering the fact that they're losing Braden Montgomery!
If the Aggies can retain Ryan Prager and maybe snag another arm or two from the portal, this is a team that will have very realistic championship aspirations from day one of next season. As currently constituted, that might still even be the case now.
