Texas A&M Aggies news: Rashaun Agee heads to NBA, 5-star decisions, and more

Rashaun Agee is latest NBA Aggie

Texas A&M basketball has had several alumni make it to the big stage and find great success in recent years, with NBA champions Alex Caruso and Khris Middleton chief among them. The latest to make his bid to play in the association is Rashaun Agee, who now has his first official shot in the league.

Agee signed an Exhibit-10 contract with the Cleveland Cavaliers, meaning that he will essentially have ten days to impress the team with his skillset. These are the ways that players like Agee, who went undrafted, can eventually break into the league— Caruso spent more than his fair share of time in the G-League before he eventually made it big with the Lakers, the Bulls, and now the Thunder.

The Aggies' big man from last season is a bit of a tweener at the NBA level, however, so fans are hopeful that he can overcome that and find a place in the league. His skillset and physicality will do well for him in that endeavor.

Five-star Albert Simien trending heavily towards Notre Dame

Texas A&M fans thought they had Albert Simien locked in for quite some time, but now that his commitment day is finally here, it looks like he will be headed elsewhere. The big man from Lake Charles, LA, has been predicted in recent days to land with the Notre Dame Fighting Irish.

We'll get official word later today, but it's looking like that is exactly where Simien is trending at the moment, which is certainly a disappointment for the Aggie faithful. Simien would have made three five-star commitments for the Aggies along the offensive line had he pledged earlier on, but I guess that isn't meant to be.

There's still time for Simien to pull a Kaden Henderson and announce for Texas A&M, but how lucky can one team get? It's more likely that he will end up in a golden helmet at this point— disappointing, but you can't win them all... even in this cycle.

Texas A&M baseball returning to Houston in 2027

After spending a weekend of non-conference play up in Arlington this past season, Texas A&M baseball will head south this year instead and play a trio of games in Houston against some power competition. Those teams were announced today, as the Aggies will take on the Louisville Cardinals (in a Super Regional rematch from 2022), the Louisiana Ragin Cajuns, and the hometown Houston Cougars.

None of these teams should be near the quality of that number one-ranked UCLA squad that the Aggies ran into this past year, so this has a chance to be a sweep for Texas A&M if they keep up this current clip in the portal.

This will be a good springboard for Michael Earley and his new and improved staff headed into what will undoubtedly be a brutal SEC slate afterwards. Hopefully, they get things started off on the right foot in the upcoming year.
